I recently visited Budapest and met several young Hungarians who had similar concerns about the influence of American media on their culture. It is disturbing to hear about, though it was empowering to visit a night club attended and created by some of these young people where traditional Hungarian folk dance is the order of the night. It was quite a thrill to see these kids so active in preserving this beautiful tradition, reveling in such a spirited, culturally rich and meaningful social art form. As a young American, I too hope that our country can overcome the superficial, empty culture of the American mass media, for many of our beautiful and true traditions have been lost as well.
